From the Music Director
Late last Winter I returned from ten weeks off for a broken ankle. Since then the choir has been busy. In addition to singing the 10:30 service every Sunday, September through June, many of the choir members also formed a group to sing the 10:30 services during the summer. A visitor remarked to me that she rarely heard choir music during the summer, and was quite delighted that our choir was here to participate in worship.
In September, we welcomed the choir from Church of the Transfiguration for an evensong for Michael and All Angels. We then participated in a lovely Advent Lessons and Carols with Transfiguration’s choir at their church early in December. The choir is in need of a tenor or two. If you are willing to help out, please let me know. Of course, we ALWAYS welcome new members of any voice. The choir rehearses each Sunday morning at 9:15–so there is not a need for a week night commitment.
Also, this season we have reinstated our Concert Series, which was on hiatus last year. The series began with a performance of the well-loved ‘Three Sopranos.” As always there are five concerts in the series. If you know of a performer, or performing group you think might be appropriate for our series in the 2008-2009 season, please let me know. I am always looking for unique concerts, which will be of interest to those in the community. The performances do not need to be religious in nature. We have had everything from choirs to a comedy troupe.
Also, this year, through the generous donation of an anonymous donor we were able to purchase new chairs for the choir stalls. I think they are a wonderful addition to the decor of the church.
In the planning stages for the next program year, is a joint concert with Church of the Transfiguration of a major choral work–probably in May of 2009. Both choirs would learn the work throughout the year, and we would present the concert at both churches. More to come on this later.

Joliet Deanery Day Renk Diocese and Companion Diocese Relationship
The Joliet Deanery held its fall Deanery Day on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lockport.
Guest speakers, Jackie Krause and Connie Wilson, presented a program on Renk Diocese and the Companion Diocese relationship between Chicago and Renk. The program offered a comprehensive slide show concerning the Renk Diocese and displays of crafts and photographs from Renk. The presenters discussed the problems and the needs of Renk, and the companion diocese activities of Chicago churches working to support the Renk Diocese.
Father Denzil Luckritz presided at the Eucharist and offered a concise and colorful history of Lockport’s St. John’s Church. The church is currently replacing stained glass windows in the building and is raising funds for an attractive expansion project.
A wonderful soup and salad luncheon was prepared by the local chapter of the Daughters of the King and served by the Men’s Group of the church. |
