Annual Report of Deacon John Whennen
Due to illness and recuperation from major surgery this past year my ministry in the parish was very restricted. Before June 1, 2007: · I had presented and completed a major Bible study on the Gospel of Mark · I made a few (three or four) visitations (mostly in hospital contexts) · I lead the Adult Forum sessions on Sundays during the 9:15 hour · I executed my responsibilities in the Sunday liturgy (my last Sunday being July 1st, before being hospitalized for most of July & August) · I led three or four week-day services · I was honored to baptize one child
It is my prayer and my hope that this new year of 2008 will prove to be for me a year of significant health improvement as well as my full restoration to my diaconal duties.
Respectfully submitted: Dn. John Whennen |

Bible Study
A new Bible study is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 28th meeting in the Annex next door to Montgomery Hall. Sessions begin at 7:15 p.m., and continue each Monday evening thereafter except the last Monday of each month. The class will be complete in fourteen sessions with additional breaks for Holy Week and Easter. The New Testament Book of Romans will be the topic of our study. This often difficult letter is recognized as the Apostle Paulıs greatest theological and literary achievement, yet this book is ignored by many because of its difficult concepts. This study will be offered as an introductory class on Romans and will attempt to offer appropriate background to better approach this book with the aid of modern scholarship. The student guide which will be given to everyone who attends the study was written by Dr. Robert Jewett, a leading New Testament scholar and expert on the Book of Romans.
Sign-up sheets are available at the front of the church and in Montgomery Hall, or contact Fr. Denzil or Deacon John or Deacon Bobbie. |

Altar Guild Annual Report
2007 was an eventful year for the guild. We welcomed 2 new members: Ellen Hill and Patti Kish and are looking forward to incorporating the items St Johns acquired from The Church of The Mediator into our weekly worship services. This year we held the first of what will be annual events, the greening of the church potluck and the de-greening of the church pizza party . Many thanks to all those who participated in these events as well as the Holy Saturday brass polishing and the many helping hands that pitched in to help us out during the past year. We are always on the lookout for new members and new ideas. If you are interested, contact myself, any of the guild members, Father Luckritz, Deacon Molony, or Deacon Whennen. Mark Kowalski |

A Huge THANK YOU to our Ushers!
It has been a busy year around St. Johns. We have welcomed many visitors and guests! Our congregation continues to grow and the important ministry of welcoming members and visitors at the door to our worship services is vital. Thank you to everyone who serves as an usher.
Throughout the year, we assisted at not only our Sunday worship services, but also at weddings and funerals and other functions during the year.
We are always in need of new members. As 2006 closed we had 8 ushers, not including the children who are learning this ministry at the 9:15 Chapel Service. Please see Tom Pouk or call him at (815)838-4748 if you would be interested in joining us in this important ministry. |
